Discourse is customisable and decentralised. You can make it look your own. You have unique accounts for each instance, no centralisation.
We use, and we’re not alone, Discourse hosted by https://discourse.org. It works quite well and with managed hosting I don’t have to worry about anything but the content.
The @Discourse app for iOS/iPadOS (the iPad app also runs on macOS) is awesome — now I have (almost) all the support sites I frequent in one, logged-in place. cc @codinghorror (Those of you still using Discord: take heed! 😜)
I wanted to thank the discourse team for creating such an amazing product. I just updated two instances of the forum without a hitch. In fact, I’ve been using the software for years. And I’ve never had a failed upgrade. And when I need help the team is always available. So hats off to you guys!!!
April 3, 2024, was the day my best friend and I decided to bring a personal project to life with the help of a few other friends. One year of instance and a lot of learning.
Discourse managed to revive in me the sense of community that I had lost on Reddit. “One signup for each day of the year” that’s how we joke about it there, with 365 members since launch. I want to express my full support and gratitude to Discourse and all contributors. You are the resistance amid so much digital chaos. Thank you to our friends from the Fediverse, ActivityPub, Lemmy, Mastodon, Friendica, and everyone else. Long live the best forum CMS of the last decade!
@SergioRocks We ditched slack for @discourse in our remote async team. Haven’t looked back and the team loves it.
Using @discourse for creating our community (community.notionapps.com) has been one of our best decisions. The engagement gives a sense of life to the product and contributes to SEO. I would highly recommend it to founders starting their product or general discussion forums.
Discourse is fabulous. My company has used it for a customer forum for 7 years so I’m using it a couple of hours a day. Super happy with it. Though I would like to be able to mark a post as unread. 🙏🏼
In the last few years @discourse has become an absolute force to be reckoned with. It’s nothing like an old school forum, and a lot more like a custom community / reddit hybrid. VERY powerful and configurable for different needs. Hugely impressive.
So glad I enabled the @discourse AI spam detection. I used to wake up to forum spam bypassing normal detection. Now AI stops them in their tracks.
As an aside, @discourse.org is extremely high quality software. So far it’s looking like they’ll be the only forum software I’ll ever use going forward.
While 14 days may not be enough for a community to take off, it’s enough to understand that Discourse is a stellar community platform that is incredibly flexible and customizable with phenomenal vendor support.
I’ve absolutely loved building the Asana Forum on Discourse! We started out with a super simple forum of just 10k users, and now it’s grown into a beautiful, thriving community of 800k users. It’s very flexible and powerful, and even factoring in some custom work, their pricing is hard to beat!
The Discourse platform itself is fantastic for its flexibility and robust features. But what truly makes them special is the support ecosystem. For almost any customization we want, we have a trifecta of resources: their helpful team, their vibrant customer community (meta), and now, their powerful AI, Ask Discourse.
The best implementation of threaded communication I’ve seen so far is the one of @discourse. Check it out!
I have been through many platforms, whether for a simple blog or a forum, but I had never encountered one like Discourse. Soon one of my domains and only successful project will be one year old. Thanks to Discourse, my project ranked first for several keywords, without lifting a finger for SEO, just writing articles. I launched a second project again on Discourse, because I trust only this platform that my work will be seen, that people will be able to touch it. Thank you to everyone who takes care of Discourse to keep up, to exist.
The update/upgrade process of @discourse is just so slick. It’s one click for both docker and the software itself. I continue to be impressed by this team.
I live and breathe the command line, but my hat is off to the people who maintain this product.
We love Discourse and we already have an intense activity on our community of independent investors 🫶
The more I look deeply at @discourse the bigger the respect I have for the product… they have many many years of iterating fast on a solid forum product and it shows. Discourse has the best tech by a big margin!
Discourse is my favorite forum software 🔥
(And it feels unfair to call it “forum software,” as that sells it short and lumps it into a class it has long since transcended.)
Hard to believe @discourse.org is apparently not being sourced as a primo (yeah I’m old) organizing and communication tool. @indivisible.org
Nobody does community better than Discourse!
The platform we are built on (Discourse) is designed for “civilized communities,” and that’s exactly what it has delivered for us. Honestly, it’s opened my eyes to how much the structure of an online community matters.❤️
@Discourse is a great software for community collaboration and forum discussion. Where it shines is the completeness of the feature set it offers to mods and admins.
A bunch of great new features just announced in the latest beta.
Among others the #Akismet external service is no longer used in favor of #Discourse #AI #spam detection.
I need to give a huge, heartfelt, deeply grateful shoutout to everyone who contributes to @Discourse.
I have never seen software do such magic before. I had a dream, I fully realized it with a self-hosted Discourse instance, I invited my friends to come populate it, I created a story of why this should exist, and I put it out into the world, and… people came. A lot of them. And they’re staying and contributing. The place is alive. It’s for us. It’s ours. And it’s all thanks to @Discourse.
I love to use @discourse and co-ceo @ILOVETHEHAWK’s talk at #runningremote showed it’s a real idea lab platform.
I love that we have a Discourse forum for @hanami! It’s just an utterly delightful spot for considered dialog.
Look at this helpful answer I got to share just now! discourse.hanamirb.org/t/progr…
And this subtle bug we got to root out and fix over the course of a couple of weeks: https://discourse.hanamirb.org/t/incor…
And this information will live forever in easily findable form. I love contributing to our forum!
Happy to announce we’ve moved our forums over to @discourse, the same software that the Roblox Developer Forums use! The team will be up tonight responding to your posts.
I understand some folks do discord but man … I’m sure happy that some places have a @discourse forum instead.
I’ve participated in a variety of different communities across several different platforms, but none have quite compared to my experience with discourse - which has offered the best online collaborative environment I’ve experienced to date. So this is a bit of a thank you for building a truly amazing forum service that’s allowed me to connect with amazing people in my community, and expand my skills at the same time. (Plus, smooth support for discourse on both desktop systems and mobile devices, which is appreciated so much!) 😄✨

Why enterprise organizations choose Discourse over alternatives

Purpose-built for community, not just customer success metrics. More flexible, easier to customize, better for actual conversations.
vs. Khoros/Aurora
Modern platform without legacy technical debt. Regular updates and new features. Fair pricing without nickel-and-diming for basic functionality.
vs. Chat platforms (Slack/Teams)
